The Republic of Colombia, having fought for over fifty years to combat numerous violent insurgents, is wholly committed to resolving with the United Nations such a serious and dangerous issue. Colombia and its people have spent years containing guerrilla groups such as FARC, ELN, EPL, and M-19 among others, and have made significant progress in the past decade in combatting and controlling their strength and influence. It is this experience that the United Nations must consult in developing classification and response systems for such dangerous organizations, and it is in this capacity that Colombia expects to aid this international effort.
