Background of Topic Immigrants have contributed tremendously to the construction of modern day Switzerland. The country has allowed immigrants to enter in accordance to its changing economy over the last several years. In 1963, Switzerland first introduced a maximum quota of seasonal workers per canton. 20% of the swiss population are immigrants with a majority of them originating from Italy, Germany, the Former Yugoslavia, Albania, Portugal and Turkey.
