Since the adoption of the Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (A/RES/53/144) in 1998, huge steps have been taken towards the implementation and ensurance of the resolution and the prevention of violations of fundamental Human Rights. Raising awareness and demanding the protection of Human Rights are increasingly important, especially in times of international crises and huge political shifts like the Arab Spring beginning in 2010. Thus, Human Right Defenders play a key role not only in the modernization of the world, but are also a symbol for humanity and peace. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that Human Right Defenders are granted a frame within to take action.
