Article 7 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights lays down the principle of the realization of social and cultural rights. However today, the Islamic Republic of Iran sees a world imploding due to the spread of bigotry and discriminatory violence. Islam is perceived as an enemy and its followers are wrongfully tormented. As a signatory of the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights (1990), a signatory to UNHRC resolution A/RES/61/164 and a concerned Member State, Iran advocates for legal and educational changes to combat the rise of Islamophobia. Iranian citizens have been subjected to verbal assaults and hate crimes, and Iran refuses to sit still while Muslim citizens are denied their basic human rights.
Iran respects and thanks the work of the OIC states in curbing Islamophobia. The OIC, in the Istanbul Declaration and establishment of the Durban Declaration, has urged Western states to implement measures against forms of xenophobia and racism.
