The landmines have started to be used frequently from the World War II. Since then, they have been present in the majority of armed conflicts around the world. A convention took place the last years of the previous century treating this problem. Sometimes referred to as the Ottawa Convention, the Mine Ban Treaty is officially titled: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction. It was adopted in 1997 and it entered into force on 1 March 1999. The Mine Ban Treaty is one of the world's most widely accepted treaties: over 80% of the world's countries are States Parties to the treaty. There are currently 162 States Parties. Only 35 states...
