Freedom of religion is fundamental in our societies. It is based on several pillars, namely freedom of conscience, which refers to the freedom to believe or not to believe in a religion and to practice it, particularly in places of worship. It also promotes equality before the law and is accompanied by equal access to public services such as hospitals and schools that provide favourable living conditions for the world's citizens. The United Arab Emirates advocates these universal values and principles guaranteed by international law as written in Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
