Croatia was elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the three-year period from 2017 to 2019 on the 20.09.2016 and is a very active member, taking part in many initiatives and projects. Croatia strongly recognises the importance of the human rights.


In its recent history, Croatia has experienced most of the problems which are common in post-socialist states, including self-censorship, threats against journalists, pressure by advertisers and political actors. Also, many journalists have left their profession at all, willing not to work in the field of media due to increasing pressure and restrictions and decreasing professionalism.
