Topic A: The Schengen Information System Regulation

The Schengen Area of Cooperation abolishes gradually border checks between member states and allows authorities to exchange information in order to cooperate more effectively.  The 1993 Schengen Agreement names measures which are designed to create a common area of security and justice among Schengen states. The Schengen Agreement aims at greater freedom and greater security in the Schengen area.

Originally, the Schengen Agreement entered into force in 1993, and Schengen cooperation – as the Schengen Agreement initially based only on an international agreement – was incorporated into EU law in 1999.
