Topic: Identifying and Enforcing the Obligations of Former Colonial Empires towards Former Colonies

 

To understand better which colonial empires controlled us and how our relations work, there are some historical facts we need to point out.Tanganyika and Zanzibar, former Tanzania were both occupied by colonial rule however Tanganyika was occupied until the end of the first World War by a leading European Country, namely Germany, and Zanzibar was occupied by Arabs and then by the British. After the war, British rulers took over the mainland and blocked any trade possible between Germany and Tanzania. In 1961, Tanganyika became independent followed by Zanzibar’s independence in 1963. One year after, they merged and became the United Republic of Tanzania.
