Topic A: Revising the Copenhagen and EU Accession Criteria

In the year 2003, The Republic of Hungary held a referendum asking the question; ‘Should Hungary become a member in the EU?’. This momentous decision was approved by the Hungarian population, with the yes vote winning a total of 83.8%. On the 1st of May, 2004, Hungary became an official member of the EU. After years of suffering under soviet authority, and being subjugate to brutal repressions, the people of Hungary chose Europe and Progress. Ideals that Hungary is still committed to today.
