A statement of the UN Environment Assembly, produced by 250 scientists and experts from over 70 countries, describes the Global Environment Outlook in a comprehensive and rigorous assessment ( Earth’s glaciers al melting faster than scientists predicted, losing 369 billion tons of snow and ice each year, more than half of that in North America. With the ice caps melting and our oceans getting warmer, a consequence is the change in the global wave climate, making the waves of our oceans stronger (FoxNews, 2019). Nonetheless, NASA scientists have recently discovered that the fastest-thinning glacier in Greenland is losing less ice than expected, and is rather growing thicker than shrinking. This is due to colder ocean currents evoked by the North Atlantic Oscillation climate pattern, that makes the Atlantic Ocean slowly switch between warmer and colder temperatures every 20 years.
