United Kingdom views the issue of vector borne diseases as one of great importance. The illnesses are caused by vectors such as ticks, flies, fleas and mosquitoes. They are transmitted by those vectors between humans or from animals to humans. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), such diseases contribute to more than 700 000 deaths every year and they represent around 17% of all infectious diseases.
