Topic: Palestine v. USA: Relocation of US Embassy to Jerusalem

  The United States of America (USA) had decided to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in the process in 2017. This decision and action have been called as illegal, according to the UNSC and UNGA Resolutions. Meanwhile, the state of Palestine regards the relocation and recognition as a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
 According to UN Resolution 181 (II) regarding the future government of Palestine, the City of Jerusalem is under international status (corpus separatum) and administered by the United Nations itself. Two years after aforementioned resolution, the UN restated Jerusalem’s position under permanent international reign with the Resolution 303 (IV) in 1949.
