The proud nation of Qatar has made education a top priority in recent years, which can be easily observed by the steady rise of the country's literacy rate over the past thirty years. At this date the literacy rate hovers around 98% of population aged 15 and above. A significant part of this achievement can be credited to the Emiri Decision No. 25 issued in September 2001, which details compulsory education for all children in Qatar.
