 Honorable Chairs, Distinguished Delegates!

AIDS awareness has drastically risen since the 20th of May 1983 when the HIV virus has been identified. This agent infects vital cells in the human immune system, such as helper T cells (specifically CD4+ T cells). When CD4+ T cell numbers decline below a critical level, cell-mediated immunity is lost, and the body becomes progressively more susceptible to opportunistic infections, leading to the development of AIDS. Nowadays this disease is considered as chronic and patients who have the virus are still able to live.
