Regulating the Situation Regarding Israel and Palestine
Iraq calls for the rights of Palestinians to be respected in line with United Nations resolutions. Iraq is also alarmed over the level of suffering felt in Palestine at the hands of Israel. Noting that Israeli settlements continue to expand in the West Bank, such initiatives deprive Palestinians of the ability to establish an independent State.
A solution to the Palestinian question can only be reached through the establishment of a Palestinian State based on 1967 borders, rejecting all violations of international law related to the status of Jerusalem. The international community must recognize the Palestinian State in order to consolidate peace in the Middle East. Peace will not be possible in the Middle East until Israel completely withdraws from the Occupied Palestinian Territory (according to 1967 borders) and an independent Palestinian State is established.
