Dear delegates,

It is our greatest honor to invite you the English Talent’s School third annual Model United Nations Conference (ETMUN), taking place on May 21 and 22. Our names are Jana Tarawneh and Seirsa Shabsough, both juniors at ETS, and we will be this year’s Secretary Generals.

3 years ago, we saw our 2019 alumni organize and run a small humble conference within the confines of our school grounds. A year later, we watched from the backgrounds as the 2020 seniors expanded it to a bigger conference in a prestigious venue. We could not wait until it would be our turn to take the reign and revolutionize ETMUN with our ideas in a way that has never been done before…. until the pandemic hit. At first, we thought we lost our chance to host this year’s conference, but as this formerly bizarre, distanced way of living has slowly seeped its way into our regular life, we realized that we should fully embrace the forward-thinking nature of the MUN and adapt the conference to our current conditions; and so ETMUN was officially back on for its third year in a row, this time virtually.

Completely student-run, we bring you 5 forums with the over-arching theme of “One Step at a Time”. At the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was lost as to what the nature of the virus was and how to tackle it. Slowly but surely, the world started to catch up; enforcing lockdown plans and investments into vaccines, and with that we saw how positive results can be achieved if we tackle issues in a gradual manner. Step by step, and hand in hand, we can pave the way for a better future. With 5 forums and a wide range of topics, there will be a place for every delegate, first timer or not, where they feel comfortable and a sense of belonging.

We hope that the tremendous effort put in by us, the team, and the school will not be in vain and that you will end our conference with a few new fun facts in your knowledge bank, feisty improved debating skills, new friends (or even enemies), feeling accomplished, and most importantly, with unforgettable memories.
